The U.S. Senate voted 84-10 on Wednesday to confirm Avril Haines, a lawyer and former deputy director of the CIA, to serve as director of national intelligence.
Joe Biden was inaugurated earlier in the day as the nation’s 46th president and the confirmation of Haines marks the first Biden Cabinet nominee to be confirmed by the Senate.
The 10 Senate Republicans who voted against confirming Haines included: Rand Paul of Kentucky, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Mike Braun of Indiana, Ted Cruz of Texas, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Bill Hagerty of Tennessee, Josh Hawley of Missouri, Mike Lee of Utah, Roger Marshall of Kansas and Jim Risch of Idaho.
